Negros Oriental, Philippines – A province-wide curfew has been mandated in Negros Oriental in connection with the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). The directive was issued through a resolution by the Special Task Force Negros Oriental.
According to Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano, the director of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for Central Visayas, the curfew will take effect at 10:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, until 4:00 AM on Sunday, October 29. This curfew will be reimposed on Sunday night until Monday morning.
Castillano clarified that the curfew was deliberately not implemented before October 28 to allow sufficient time for the campaign period. The intention behind the curfew is to prevent vote buying, undue influence, and intimidation against voters and candidates.
Individuals exempted from the curfew include those working in call center companies, law enforcement personnel, and other authorities and individuals employed during those hours.
It’s noteworthy that Negros Oriental is under COMELEC control, emphasizing the electoral body’s oversight in ensuring a fair and orderly conduct of the upcoming elections. The imposition of a province-wide curfew reflects proactive measures taken to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
