The Social Security System (SSS) has introduced significant changes to its funeral benefits, elevating the maximum amount to a substantial P60,000. This adjustment, unveiled through updated guidelines, aims to provide increased financial support to the families of deceased SSS members.
Effective last Friday, October 20, the enhanced guidelines dictate that claimants of members, with contributions no less than 30 months, can now access the elevated maximum benefit of P60,000. This marks a notable increase from the previous cap of P20,000. Furthermore, families of members who have contributed for at least one month but not more than 36 months will now be eligible for funeral benefits amounting to P12,000.
The widened coverage of funeral benefits encompasses various services, including embalming, burial transfers, permits, cremation, interment, and the acquisition or rental of caskets, cemetery plots, memorial lots, and funeral insurance plans.
