Gilas Pilipinas is set for a challenging start to their 19th Asian Games campaign in Hangzhou, China. The Filipino basketball team will go head-to-head against Bahrain in their opening match, and head coach Tim Cone is anticipating a tough matchup for Gilas.
Cone, widely recognized as the winningest coach in PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) history, shared his thoughts on the upcoming game. He noted that Bahrain is expected to present a formidable challenge.
“I think they are going to be a challenge out there,” stated Cone.
He went on to highlight Bahrain’s strengths, emphasizing their proficiency in shooting and their ability to apply significant defensive pressure. Cone also noted that Bahrain’s team differs from typical Middle East teams in that they are not particularly big but compensate with quickness and shooting prowess.
“Usually, Middle East teams are really big, but they are a little different, they are quick and they can shoot,” added the head coach, who is also known for his successful tenure with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel team in the PBA.
