A teacher in Antipolo is facing a homicide case for allegedly assaulting a Grade 5 student, who later succumbed to injuries. According to the victim’s sibling, 14-year-old Francis Gumikib was reportedly struck by his teacher at Peñafrancia Elementary School on September 21.
After a week, the victim pleaded to be taken to the hospital due to severe headaches and earaches. Medical examination revealed internal bleeding in Francis’s brain, leading to a comatose state. Unfortunately, he passed away on Monday, October 2.
According to an account from a classmate, the victim had only warned the teacher about the noise made by his classmates, but the teacher allegedly suddenly grabbed him by the hair and struck him in the neck.
Photographs from the morgue reveal a wide and dark bruise on Francis’s neck. The accused teacher denies the allegations. The Department of Education (DepEd) Antipolo Division spokesperson stated that they will not shield the teacher involved in the case.
