President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has taken decisive action to secure a sufficient rice supply for the country amidst the challenges posed by Typhoon Egay and power outages in affected areas.
During a critical situation briefing held in Abra, President Marcos emphasized the paramount importance of rice as a staple food for Filipinos. He assured the public that the government is working diligently to ensure an abundant and stable rice supply, addressing concerns about food security during these trying times.
In addition to the pressing issue of rice supply, the President also expressed deep concern for the areas that experienced power outages due to the impact of Typhoon Egay. He directed authorities to expedite efforts to restore electricity and provide much-needed relief to affected communities.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, President Marcos called for an immediate search for rice suppliers to bolster the National Food Authority’s capacity to offer emergency support to those in need. This move aims to guarantee that Filipino families have access to essential food items despite the challenges brought about by natural disasters.
Furthermore, the President acknowledged the damage caused to vegetable crops in Benguet due to the typhoon. In response, the government is actively exploring strategies to aid farmers in rehabilitating their fields and recovering from the loss.
Amid the current situation, President Marcos clarified that the government’s policy does not involve indiscriminate importation of agricultural products from other countries. Instead, importation will be considered only if it becomes necessary to stabilize prices and ensure adequate supplies for the public.
“Hindi ‘yan magiging policy. We will not import any agriculture [product] unless we see that the supply is so low that the prices will become out of reach sa ordinary consumers,” President Marcos assured, affirming the government’s commitment to local farmers and producers.
The nation faces the dual challenges of recovering from Typhoon Egay’s aftermath and managing the ongoing pandemic. In this critical juncture, the government remains steadfast in safeguarding the welfare of its citizens by securing food supplies and ensuring essential services are promptly restored in affected areas.
As the situation continues to evolve, President Bongbong Marcos Jr. and the government are actively addressing the needs of the Filipino people, working together to build resilience and overcome these challenging times.
