The 79th Infantry Battalion, operating under the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, engaged in a decisive clash with the New People’s Army (NPA) guerrilla front in Sitio Nabalas Dos, Barangay Canlusong, EB Magalona. The Northern Negros Front of the Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, found themselves in a rapid and intense exchange of gunfire that endured for 15 minutes.
Taking swift action, the military secured a significant outcome, resulting in the demise of two rebels and the successful seizure of two M16 Assault Rifles and one M14 Rifle from the insurgents.
In the aftermath, authorities wasted no time and launched a follow-up operation the next day, leading to the confiscation of additional war materials. Among the items seized were an AR15 Assault Rifle, an M16 Assault Rifle, an M1 Garand Rifle, four Rifle Grenades, and various live ammunitions.
Lieutenant General Benedict Arevalo PA, Commander of the Visayas Command (VISCOM), emphasized the military’s commitment to proactive measures as the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) draw near. The mission is clear: to ensure a secure and smooth electoral process.
VISCOM reported a recent triumph, highlighting the neutralization of 79 NPA terrorists in the Visayas region during the third quarter of the year. Additionally, they confiscated 110 firearms and 25 Anti-Personnel Mines, showcasing the military’s ongoing dedication to maintaining peace and security as the nation prepares for the upcoming elections.
