On January 11, 2024, at 9:00 AM, the House Committee on Energy, under the leadership of Congressman Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco, is set to convene to continue its second round of inquiry into the power blackout that affected Panay and Guimaras Islands on April 28, 2023.
This follows the initial inquiry conducted by the committee on August 15, 2023. The resolution was sponsored by Ilonggo Representatives Raul “Boboy” C. Tupas, Julienne “Jam” Baronda, Michael B. Corriceta, Francisco “Kiko” B. Benitez, Lorenz R. Defensor, James “Jojo” A. Ang. Jr., Dan S. Fernandez, Raoul Danniel A. Manuel, Arlene D. Brosas, and France L. Castro.
Notably absent in the resolution are Iloilo 4th District Rep. Ferj Biron, 1st District Rep. Janette Garin, and AAMBIS-OWA Rep. Lex Colada. However, Representative Baronda has filed another resolution to investigate the recent power blackout on Panay Island, which occurred days before the electricity supply stabilized.
Baronda is set to file this resolution on January 22, 2024, upon the resumption of the session for the first reading. With Congress currently on recess, the filing and subsequent deliberation of Baronda’s resolution in the plenary will be anticipated upon their return.
