The Philippine National Police (PNP) expresses optimism as it anticipates zero incidents of stray bullets during the New Year’s celebration. According to PNP Public Information Office Chief and Spokesperson Police Col. Jean Fajardo, the PNP is hopeful that the efforts in place will prevent any untoward incidents related to stray bullets.
As of yesterday, there have been no reported victims of stray bullets during this holiday season, as shared by Fajardo during a press briefing at Camp Crame.
However, Fajardo reported that the PNP has documented 63 incidents under their Oplan Ligtas Paskuhan 2023. These cases include illegal discharge of firearms, illegal possession and sale of firecrackers, damages caused by fireworks, and fire incidents due to fireworks.
Among the recorded incidents, 18 perpetrators have been identified, 5 firearms have been confiscated, 18 individuals were injured, and sadly, 2 casualties have been reported.
