House Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party-list Representative Arlene Brosas calls for an investigation in the House of Representatives into the rising cases of violence and abuse against children and women.
In House Resolution 1632, Brosas expressed concern that alongside technological advancements and the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), there is also a worrying increase in cases of gender-based violence and online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
Brosas referenced records from the Philippine National Police Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System, which reported 19,635 cases of violence against women and children from January to August of last year.
According to Brosas, there is a growing concern that women are being failed in their role as protectors of children and women against the abuses brought about by the continuous rise of technology.
Therefore, Brosas calls on the government to study, amend existing laws, and expedite the enactment of necessary legislation to ensure that justice is served to victims of online sexual exploitation and abuse.
