President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed PMGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Marbil, a distinguished member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sambisig Class of 1991, will step into the role as the 30th police chief, following his tenure as the head of the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership.
Marbil brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously led the PNP Highway Patrol Group and served as director of the Eastern Visayas police. His extensive background in law enforcement positions him as a formidable leader to tackle the challenges facing the PNP.
Notably, Marbil’s appointment comes as Gen. Benjamin Acorda concludes his term as the outgoing chief of the PNP. Acorda, who was initially slated to retire last December upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56 for PNP personnel, saw his term extended until March 31 by President Marcos Jr.
During the change of command ceremony held at Camp Crame, Gen. Acorda expressed his gratitude to President Marcos Jr. for the trust placed in him throughout his tenure. The transition marks a pivotal moment for the PNP as it looks toward new leadership under Marbil’s stewardship.
With Marbil’s appointment, expectations are high for the PNP to continue its mission of ensuring peace and order across the nation. As Marbil assumes his new role, all eyes will be on the strategies and initiatives he implements to further strengthen the PNP and address the evolving security landscape in the Philippines.
