The month of August has ushered in a remarkable astronomical phenomenon with a supermoon gracing the skies. Seen on August 1, the sturgeon supermoon has captivated stargazers, and another captivating sight awaits at the end of the month with the rare super blue moon on August 30.
The sturgeon supermoon, visible at 2:32 PM ET yesterday, as reported by In the Sky, is scheduled to set at 5:11 AM on Wednesday, August 3.
The upcoming super blue moon on August 30 is anticipated to appear at 7:10 PM ET and will bid its farewell at 6:46 AM on the morning of August 31.
A blue moon refers to the second full moon occurring within a single calendar month. Typically, a month is characterized by a solitary full moon, spaced around 29 days apart. However, due to the variations in the lengths of months, often spanning 30 to 31 days, occasionally, a second full moon occurs within the same month, as highlighted by NASA.
