Following its devastating impact and the billions of pesos in damages it left behind in the Philippines as Typhoon Egay or Doksuri, the same typhoon has now claimed the lives of at least 11 people, with 27 others reported missing in Beijing, China as of August 1, 2023.
Due to widespread flooding, train stations were destroyed, and residents were evacuated. Several vehicles were also swept away by the powerful floodwaters.
Additionally, nine casualties have been reported in Hebei province due to the adverse weather conditions.
At present, over 500,000 residents have been affected, and the situation may worsen as the approaching typhoon threatens further devastation.
China experienced its deadliest flood in 1998 when over 4,150 people lost their lives due to catastrophic flooding along the Yangtze River. The current situation serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of the region to natural disasters.
