Philippine National Police – Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) has successfully arrested five individuals involved in the illicit online sale of firecrackers. The operations, targeting those selling fireworks through social media, emphasize the authorities’ commitment to maintaining public safety.
Earlier today at 9:15 AM, two men were apprehended in front of a convenience store in Brgy. San Ramon, Dinalupihan, Bataan. Identified as Jaymar Sandoval and Eugene Macasaet, they were caught selling firecrackers on Facebook. Confiscated from them were two bundles of kwitis, a snake firecracker with 1,800 rounds, and a box of piccolo. The seized items were then turned over to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 3.
The arrested individuals are now facing multiple charges under Republic Act 7183, also known as the Firecrackers Regulation Law, and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
This development follows previous operations in Tondo, Manila, and Caloocan City leading up to Christmas, resulting in the arrest of one and two individuals, respectively, according to P/Col. Jay Guillermo, head of the PNP ACG Cyber Response Unit.
In a plea to the public, Guillermo emphasized the illegal nature of online firecracker sales and urged citizens not to support such activities due to their violation of the law. The crackdown aims to ensure the safety of the public during the festive season.
