Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is seeking an explanation from the Department of Energy (DOE) regarding the delayed submission of the new energy roadmap to Congress.
The Philippine Energy Plan (PEP), extended until 2050, aims to increase the use of renewable energy and establish an energy mix towards what is termed the clean energy scenario.
The Senator believes that the PEP will serve as the foundation for the country to achieve cleaner energy, stimulate economic growth, and improve the well-being of the people.
Gatchalian stated that the DOE has been three months late in submitting the updated energy roadmap, as mandated by Republic Act 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA).
The nation’s renewable energy goals are set at 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The Senate is pressing for clarification to address concerns regarding the delay and ensure that the country’s energy plans align with its sustainable development goals.
