It is anticipated that the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project (JRMP) Phase 2 in Calinog, Iloilo will be fully operational by the end of 2025. In an interview with RMN Iloilo, Steve Cordero, Chief of Watershed Management and spokesperson for JRMP 2, revealed that the project is currently at 74.22% completion and is still ongoing.
According to Cordero, the overall physical accomplishment includes activities in infrastructure, environmental, and social management. As of December 2023, three dams, which are integral parts of the project, have been substantially completed. The spokesperson added that they are currently undertaking minor works in preparation for the operation of the constructed dams.
Cordero further explained that once the rainy season arrives, the dams will be able to collect water, thereby aiding in flood management. This aspect highlights the multifunctionality of the project, which not only serves irrigation purposes but also contributes to disaster risk reduction efforts in the region.
