The Iloilo Provincial Capitol Press Corps (IPCPC) has released a statement regarding an incident involving a vlogger who identified themselves as media but acted unprofessionally during a coverage of a shooting incident in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
According to the statement from IPCPC, Wilfredo “Pidong” Talaron, who represents Zarraga News Live, approached a barangay tanod (village watchman) on duty and asked questions about the incident. Talaron deemed the tanod’s response unsatisfactory and considered it disrespectful. He then escalated the matter by reporting it to Miagao Mayor Richard Garin.
IPCPC emphasizes the importance of professionalism and ethical standards in media coverage, highlighting this incident as an example. While vloggers are welcome to cover various events, it is crucial for them to adhere to the highest standards of ethical reporting and act with professionalism.
The press corps reminds vloggers that, although they are part of the media landscape, they should not compromise media ethics, especially when it comes to identifying individuals in their personal and professional lives.
IPCPC states that this incident should not be repeated, and they hope that no journalist will encounter a similar situation or commit a similar mistake.
