SAN FRANCISCO, United States – Apple acknowledged on Monday that some newly released iPhone 15 models are experiencing heating issues, and the tech giant is actively working to address the problem. According to Apple, the “bug” causing certain iPhones to heat up will be rectified through an upcoming update to its iOS 17 mobile operating software. The company is also collaborating with developers of specific apps that are contributing to the overheating problem.
In response to an AFP inquiry, Apple stated, “We have identified a few conditions which can cause the iPhone to run warmer than expected.” It clarified that some iPhones may feel warmer in the initial days after setup due to increased background activity. Additionally, Apple acknowledged finding a bug in iOS 17 that impacts certain users and assured users that this issue would be resolved in a forthcoming software update.
The overheating problem is also attributed to recent updates to third-party apps, including Instagram, Uber, and the Asphalt 9 car racing game. Users reported online that these apps were causing the iPhone’s internal components to heat up.
According to Apple, it is not uncommon for iPhones to feel warm during initial setup or when running graphics-intensive apps such as games. The support page reassured users that these conditions are normal, and the device will return to a regular temperature once the setup process is complete or when the demanding activity concludes.
The iPhone 15 models were launched on September 22, featuring universal charger ports following a dispute with the European Union over Lightning charger ports. Apple, facing a decline in iPhone sales, aims to entice customers with improved camera and chip features. The iPhone 15 is designed with internal components that simplify repairs and a new frame facilitating easy replacement of the back glass.
As Apple works to address the heating issue, users can expect a software update soon to alleviate the reported problems.
