Western Visayas, Philippines – The region of Western Visayas has experienced a remarkable decline in dengue cases this year, with a staggering 59% decrease compared to the previous year. However, despite this positive trend, the area continues to grapple with the loss of 24 lives due to the mosquito-borne illness.
According to the latest data released by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health and Development Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (DOH WV CHD-RESU), a total of 6,013 dengue cases have been recorded in the region from January 1 to November 23. This figure marks a significant drop from the 14,640 cases reported during the same period last year.
Among the provinces in Western Visayas, Aklan emerged with the highest number of dengue cases, totaling 995. Iloilo City followed closely behind with 906 cases, while Capiz reported 787 cases. Bacolod City, Antique, Guimaras, and Iloilo province collectively accounted for 1,021 cases. Tragically, 24 lives were lost to the disease within the region.
