Prior to filing a case, four former officials and members of the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Iloilo City Government Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (ICGEMPC) will undergo legal proceedings.
BOD Chairman Atty. Joseph Edward Areno has confirmed their intention to pursue legal action against the four individuals who have the largest loans in the cooperative. However, Areno has refrained from disclosing their identities in connection with the case.
Areno stated that both civil and criminal cases would be filed against the four due to their significant debt and issuing of checks to themselves. Their positions when availing loans without repayment will also be considered aggravating circumstances.
It has been revealed that they possess checks signed and released by the accused under their own names. The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Central Office’s investigation results are awaited.
They plan to utilize the legal department’s findings from the CDA to collectively file cases against the entire previous board and officials for violating Cooperative Law.
The current officials and BOD of ICGEMPC will serve as complainants in these cases, with the BOD scheduled to draft a board resolution for this purpose.
