Tech giant Meta has announced that it will be discontinuing its Messenger Lite App beginning on September 18, 2023.
According to the company, Messenger Lite users on Android will gradually be directed to the main Messenger or Facebook Lite app in order to send and receive messages.
Meta launched this app back in 2016 with the aim of reaching and serving users with mobile phones that have lower specifications, enabling them to use the app effectively.
Compared to the main Messenger app, which consumes around 54MB of storage, this lighter version is just around 10MB in size.
Messenger Lite is more efficient and uses less data, even in areas with slow or unstable internet connections.
Additionally, Meta announced that Messenger will no longer be usable as the default SMS app on Android starting from September 28.
