Unfolding in a tense buybust operation today in Barangay Concepcion, Iloilo City, was the successful confiscation of illegal drugs valued at P7.8 million. However, the operation took a tragic turn as a SWAT member lost his life in a fierce shootout.
The individuals apprehended in the operation were identified as Glen Yturiaga, alias Bongbong, aged 52, Ivan Palmejar, 35 years old, and Katrina Espinosa, 42 years old, the live-in partner of Yturiaga.
According to information gathered by the RMN Iloilo News Team, Yturiaga has a prior history of imprisonment for drug-related charges dating back to 2018. Palmejar, on the other hand, was previously imprisoned in 2009 for a murder case but secured his release in 2021 through a plea bargaining agreement.
The suspects reportedly engaged the police in a confrontation during the operation, resulting in the unfortunate death of one SWAT member. The deceased officer was identified as Police Staff Sergeant Michael Malan, 42 years old.
