Passi City, Iloilo – Three men were apprehended in the early hours of July 30 while cutting and attempting to steal telecommunication cables from PANTELCO in Railway St., Poblacion Ilaya, Passi City. The suspects were identified as Allan Niogan, 29 years old, from Niogan, Miag-ao; Jeobert Fuentes, 38 years old, from Tapian, Batad; and Richard Aranton, 26 years old, from Cuartero, Capiz, all allegedly working as hired personnel for Globe telco.
According to information obtained by iFM News Iloilo, a vigilant resident witnessed the trio in the act of severing the PANTELCO cable and immediately informed the authorities. The suspects were caught red-handed and were found to have a vehicle resembling a Globe telco service van. Police Master Sergeant Ian Lim, an investigator from Passi City Police Station, reported that two pliers used to cut the cable and the 90-meter cable itself were recovered at the scene.
As a result of their arrest, the suspects are currently detained at Passi City Police Station and will face charges of Theft for their alleged involvement in the attempted theft of telecommunication infrastructure. The authorities commend the vigilant citizen for their prompt action in reporting the crime, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in combating criminal activities and safeguarding public infrastructure. Investigations into the matter will continue to ensure that justice is served and to deter similar incidents in the future.
