Two individuals affiliated with the New People’s Army (NPA) were pronounced dead following a re-encounter with Philippine Army personnel at 6:20 AM on July 29, 2023. As reported by PCPT Danilo Noca, head of the Leon Municipal Police Station, the slain rebels were male, but their identities remain unknown at present. The confrontation occurred after receiving reports of NPA rebels’ presence in the area, prompting a rapid response from the 61st battalion. The exchange of gunfire lasted approximately five minutes, leading to the deaths of two rebels.
However, two others managed to evade capture and escaped from the scene. According to PCPT Noca, the location where the incident transpired was not a known NPA camp, suggesting that the rebels sought refuge in the area due to the heavy rainfall.
Several items were recovered from the crime scene during the subsequent investigation, including:
– One homemade M16 rifle single shot
– Two homemade long-barrel shotguns
– One 45 caliber pistol – One bandolier – Three M16 magazines
– One IED C type – Four backpacks – Subversive documents (extortion letter)
– Two wallets
– Medical supplies
– NPA flag
– Cooking pot
– Ammunition for M16 and 12-gauge shotguns
As of now, the specific faction to which the encountered rebels belonged remains unconfirmed. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported among the government troops during the skirmish.
