Iloilo City Police Office Director, PCol. Joeresty Coronica, recommends that taxi operators in the city require drug tests and national police clearances for prospective taxi drivers.
According to the official, drug testing should not only be conducted during the application process but also through random tests as part of monitoring by taxi management.
In addition to drug testing, Coronica emphasizes the importance of requiring a National Police Clearance. This clearance can reveal whether an applicant has any criminal history or not.
The director also suggests placing a sticker on the dashboard of the vehicle, displaying the operator’s name, contact number, the plate number, and a photo of the driver.
Taxi operators and drivers are encouraged to be open to these recommendations from the Iloilo City Police Office.
ICPO Director Coronica convened a meeting with taxi operators and drivers following recent incidents of violence involving taxis in Iloilo City.
