A landslide occurred in Barangay Qui-anan, San Joaquin, Iloilo, resulting in the closure of the road. The landslide, which took place early on July 31, 2023, covered a stretch of the road with soil measuring approximately 10 to 15 meters wide.Thankfully, no vehicles or pedestrians were reported to be passing through the affected area when the landslide occurred, according to Pol. Major John Paul Guay, the chief of Hamtic Municipal Police Station (MPS).
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of San Joaquin, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is working tirelessly to clear the debris and reopen the road for public use.Motorists traveling from Iloilo to San Jose, Antique, and vice versa are advised to take an alternative route through Barangay Tiolas, San Joaquin, until the main road is deemed safe and accessible once again.Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents and travelers, and they are doing everything possible to address the issue promptly.
