Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has issued a plea to PLDT-Smart to accelerate the restoration of internet services in the city.
The mayor emphasized that a significant number of customers have been affected by the internet outage, as many rely on it for swift communication, payments, and other essential needs.
“I call on PLDT Smart to fast-track the restoration of the internet here in Iloilo City. It has affected so many who rely on the internet for fast communication, payment, and other needs,” the mayor’s message stated.
In an announcement from PLDT at 1:32 PM on August 1, 2023, it was revealed that their fiber optic cable was damaged due to drainage excavation. As a result, customers in certain areas of Cebu, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Panay, Bacolod, and Mindanao may experience slow landline and internet services.
The mayor’s plea reflects the urgency of the situation and the importance of seamless internet connectivity in the daily lives of Iloilo City’s residents and businesses.
