Janiuay, Iloilo – A collective effort has been underway to extend substantial assistance to the family of a 15-year-old youth who was tragically assaulted on July 26, 2023, in Barangay Aquino Nobleza East, Janiuay.
Elizabeth Sevilla, head of the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office (MSWDO) in Janiuay, reported that an outpouring of support has been witnessed for the victim’s family. In addition to condolences, various forms of aid, including funeral arrangements, food provisions, and financial assistance, have been offered. Moreover, the family has also been provided with livelihood support and three housing units to aid their recovery.
For instance, the Loraña family not only received support for the victim’s funeral, known as Chris, but they were also given a new home donated by a Non-Government Organization, specifically the Gawad Kalinga Foundation. These initiatives have been made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Local Government Unit of Janiuay, the MSWDO of Janiuay, the USWAG Ilonggo Partylist, the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO), and the assistance of 3rd District Congressman Nonoy “Lorenz” Defensor.
Yesterday, on August 1, 2023, PSWDO Focal Person Rara Ganzon visited the Loraña family alongside Sevilla to extend support and explore further assistance possibilities. Ganzon emphasized that additional aid is anticipated from 3rd District Board Member Jason Gonzales and Matt Palabrica.
In light of these efforts, counseling sessions are being provided for Chris’s mother, Josephine Loraña, to help her cope with the grief she is enduring. Looking forward, Chris’s funeral is scheduled for August 10, 2023, at the Janiuay Catholic Cemetery.
