Iloilo City- A coordinated operation carried out on August 8, 2023, by law enforcement agencies yielded notable success in suppressing illicit drug activities within Iloilo City. The collaborative effort involved the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Counter-Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) and the ICPS3 Special Drug Enforcement Team (SDET), leading to the apprehension of several suspects and the discovery of contraband related to illegal drug trade.
Executed in Brgy. Benedicto, Jaro, Iloilo City, the operation resulted in the arrest of the following individuals:
- Amy Bayonita y Magallanes (HVI) – 41 years old, female, married
- Romel Melliza y Dela Peña (HVI) – 51 years old, male (at large)
- Miguel Esparagoza y Baltazar (SLI) – 19 years old, male, single
- Ro-ann Bayonita y Magallanes (SLI) – 19 years old, female, single
- (Minor-SLI) – 15 years old, male
The operation led to the confiscation of the following items:

- One (1) heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu (buybust item)
- Four (4) pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu (possession)
- Buy bust money amounting to Php 8,000.00
- One (1) coin purse
- One (1) android cellular phone
- Proceeds money worth Php 400.00
- Two (2) improvised tooters
- Four (4) pieces of aluminum foil
- One digital weighing scale
- One bundle of empty plastic sachets
- One scissor
- Two (2) lighters
The suspects now face charges in accordance with Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The arrests and seizures highlight the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the distribution and use of illegal drugs, contributing to a safer environment for the residents of Iloilo City. The apprehended suspects are presently in the custody of ICPS3, awaiting further legal procedures as the case progresses.
