The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in Region 6 has raised a Blue Alert status after closely monitoring Tropical Storm Falcon, known internationally as Khanun. Through RDRRMC Memo No. 76, all local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) councils have been directed to closely monitor the storm’s developments and undertake necessary preparations.
As of 11:00 PM on July 28, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) reported that Tropical Storm Falcon has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). PAG-ASA’s forecasts indicate that the storm is still intensifying and has the potential to be classified as a typhoon by tomorrow afternoon.
According to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 6, a total of 251 barangays in the region are identified as landslide-prone areas. These include two in Aklan, five in Negros Occidental, 190 in Antique, 50 in Iloilo, and four in Guimaras.
As the storm approaches, it is crucial for residents and local authorities in the affected areas to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to ensure their safety. The RDRRMC’s Blue Alert status serves as a reminder for everyone to be prepared and ready for any potential impact that Tropical Storm Falcon may bring.
Authorities are closely monitoring the storm’s movements, and further updates and advisories will be provided to the public as the situation develops. The safety and well-being of the community remain a top priority, and it is essential for everyone to cooperate with local authorities and follow precautionary measures to mitigate potential risks and damages caused by the approaching storm.
