Iloilo City came together in a heartfelt tribute as they bid a final farewell to the brave hero, Police Staff Sergeant (PSSg) Michael Malan. The City Director, Police Colonel Joeresty P Coronica, led the ceremonial honors and respect at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) headquarters on General Luna Street.
Amidst a somber morning on November 10, 2023, PCol Coronica, accompanied by the command group, officers, PNCO, and NUP, warmly welcomed PSSg Malan’s wife, son, and grieving family. In a moving address, PCol Coronica emphasized the importance of cherishing the memories and laughter they shared with PSSg Malan, who dedicated his life to serving the nation.
Friends, relatives, and fellow public servants had the opportunity to pay their respects during the viewing held at ICPO before PSSg Malan’s scheduled interment on November 11 at Forest Lake Memorial Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. A Funeral Mass at Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church in Brgy. Tanza, Iloilo City, would precede the interment.
Later in the day, a necrological service was held in the ICPO lobby at 4:00 PM to honor PSSg Malan’s memory.
PSSg Michael Malan, who lost his life in the line of duty during a legitimate drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Concepcion, Iloilo City, on October 29, 2023, will be remembered as a true hero. He responded to a call of assistance from the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) operatives in a dangerous situation, giving his life in the relentless fight against illegal drugs for the sake of his fellow countrymen.
